Charlie Corchado, Master Barber & Barbershop Owner
/The second week of this new year is almost wrapped up. We hope all of you are fully booked this and every Thursday for the rest of the year. Charlie Corchado sets a great tone about self-reflection. We greatly appreciate the time he gave us and will be checking in on him soon. Read his responses below and use them as motivation to start or continue your own plan for success
What lead you to start working as a barber? How long have you been doing it?
-As a kid my family used to travel a lot and when I was 17 years old I bought my first pair of clippers and started doing my own hair. When my cousins and my friends saw that I wasn't half bad they gave me the opportunity to cut their hair. It made me feel important that every time they had a special event they would ask me to cut their hair before. I'm 30 years old now and I still get that feeling. I've been cutting hair for 13 years.
Would you consider this your passion? Do you have another field that you work in?
-Barbering is definitely my passion. I consider myself a full time entrepreneur. I see barbering as a talent that God gave me to open doors for other business opportunities.
What is your craziest client story?
-A craziest client story, wow! My first year working at a barbershop, on occasions, my girlfriend (currently my wife) would bring me lunch to the shop. One day a client said something really disrespectful towards her without knowing that I was her boyfriend. So I tried swallowing my pride and just let him know that she was my girl. But he kept disrespecting her so while I was halfway done with the cut, I PUNCHED him! Just thinking about it makes me feel ashamed. I was really young and ignorant ...til' this day when people ask me, "What would you do different in life?" that's definitely the first thing that pops up in my head. If he happens to read the story and remembers that incident I would love to let him know that I apologize and I'm very sorry. I'm a totally different person now and I would never handle that situation the same way.
What is the one thing you want to accomplish this year(in business)?
-This year I would love to identify what I lack or my weaknesses in business so that I can build a team around me. We would complement each other and make each other better so that we would feel that we could take on the world. By the time the year is over that team has to be established!
What is one long term goal you have in life?
-A long-term goal in life that I always thought about is to keep educating and motivating people around me. in order to be able to enjoy the harvest of what I am planting now, I would love to never have to speak about the things that I did or accomplished but that my legacy will speak for me.
Lastly, what is your ideal retirement scenario?
-My Ideal retirement scenario would be enjoying the benefits of income properties, business deals, startup companies and other endeavors that I will invest in the near future so that my family and I would live a relaxed retirement. And since we live in Puerto Rico it will definitely be a tropical retirement!
