José Rodas, Licensed Barber
/As you read today's post you will notice a familiar theme from our previous interviews. And we must state that we will continue to touch on these themes with this and future posts for the simple fact that they work. José makes sure to tell us the importance of defining ones' goals, the mentor/mentee relationship and the general goal of creating residual income for ourselves. We definitely appreciate the note he sends out about the need to give back to our community. Read his responses below and use them as motivation to start or continue your own plan for success
What lead you to start working as a barber? How long have you been doing it?
-So I was always a kid that wanted his fresh hair cut every week or 2 weeks and always loved the culture and how barbers represented them self as gentlemen. Officially 2 years and counting.
Would you consider this your passion? Do you have another field or venture that you work in?
-Barbering for me is my passion. I always put 110 % into every cut because if you don't strive to be the best or push yourself then why are you doing it. Photography is another field I love and try to be creative.
Can you describe who your best client is?
-I honestly have no favorite clients because I love all my clients, I know that sounds cliché but I love what I do and I'm always happy to see my clients again.
What is one thing you want to accomplish this year (in business)?
-I would love to become a sponsored barber and teach students the ways of the art. I've had a lot of mentors in life which have changed my life as well as God himself. I believe it's time to give back to my fellow barbers.
What is one long term goal you have in life?
-I would love to give back to my community and my church. And, start my own none profit organization which will help pay for school for future barbers.
Are you feeling positive about the country's stance on marijuana?
-Marijuana is a tough subject because me personally I don't smoke but I know a lot of people that actually use it for recreational purposes and I'm all for using the taxes to better the country.
Lastly, what is your ideal retirement scenario?
-I want to own multiple business and pass it on for my family and retire. Also I'm putting money away on my own for retirement to fall back on.
